Charlie Brown Beanie

Skill Level:
Easy to Intermediate. You will need to know how to:
double half crochet - dhc
change colors and use a stranding method for working in two colors.
make a magic circle or magic ring

You will need:
Red Heart Bright Yellow
Vanna's Choice Lion Brand in Charcoal Grey
(this is simply the yarn I had on hand, you may wish to substitute other yarns)
Size J hook (6mm)
Tapestry Needle

Size:
This hat has about a 19 in. circumference when not on a child's head.
I made this for my nephew who is 13 months old so I estimate it would fit a child about 12-18 months old.
It would be easy to increase the size of this hat by adding extra increase rounds done in the same way as the ones in the pattern. Just be sure that you end up with a number of stitches divisible by 6 so that the zig-zag comes out right.
I did change the pattern a smidge from the hat that is shown in the pictures. I simply moved the zig-zag up one row to center it more on the hat.

Directions:
In yellow, make a magic ring
Continue in only yellow for the next 8 rnds.
Rnd 1: ch 2 (this will count as your first st), 9 dhc in ring, join (10 sts).
Rnd 2: ch 2 (ch 2 will always count as your first dhc) 1 dhc in same st, 2 dhc in each st around, join (20 sts)
Rnd 3: ch 2, 1dhc in same st, 1 dhc in following st, *2 dhc in next st, 1 dhc in following st; repeat from * for entire round, join (30 sts)
