Project Run and Play Review

It's time for Project Run and Play again!
I'm out of my mind with excitement, and I'm not the only one!
Starting on Monday we'll be hearing from a few other bloggers as they look back on their favorite Project Run and Play Creations.

Here's the Schedule:
Monday- Jo, Scary and Al from Shaffer Sisters
Tuesday- Ashley and Emily from francessuzanne
Wednesday- Mae from The Life of a Compulsive Crafter
Thursday- Ajaire from Call Ajaire
Friday- Courtney from Sweeter Than Cupcakes
Saturday- Me!

These ladies are all so talented and have made some really cute outfits. Seriously, go check out their blogs!

To give things a little kick start, I'll quickly share my least favorite Project Run and Play outfit.
The first thing I ever made for the sew-along group was a shirt for my niece. I drafted my own pattern, and had trouble with it the whole way through. The shirt didn't end up looking at all like I wanted it too. Alaina loved it, and I guess that's all that really matters in the end. Unfortunately, it only fit her for a few weeks before it was too tight.

Perry the Platypus

I'm back!
I know I said you could expect me to be back September 1st, but I just couldn't keep away! To many fun things going on in blogland, and I'm just sitting relaxing on the sidelines. I am using Bloglovin' and it has helped me so much with keeping up with blogs! And I've started following even more blogs, oh it's a vicious circle.
But to start off with, I'd like to share a project that I got done over 6 months ago! And I know you all have seen this cute little guy pop up in my instagram feed (hint, hint!)
It's Perry the Platypus!
(because I know you were all in suspense after completely ignoring the title, right?)

Here is the link to the free pdf pattern for those of you who are just dying to make your own: Plushie Pet Platypus Free Pattern

And now the story behind the Platypus.

I am super picky about the TV shows I let Mackay watch. My rule of thumb is, "if I don't mind sitting down to watch it with him for a half an hour, than he can watch it." It doesn't have anything to do with the educational value of the program, just the annoyance factor. Thus, Mack watches shows like Arthur, Babar, Curious George and Phineas and Ferb. Some shows come and go. When mommy gets tired of watching Thomas and Friends it magically disappears from the DVR. Mack really started getting into Phineas and Ferb when he was pretty little. He loves the music. He actually really loves theme songs from a lot of shows (Psych and The Big Bang Theory are two of his favorites).

So I was on Ravelry, which is one of my favorite places to be (right after pinterest), and I started looking through all the adorable (and totally free!) amigurumi patterns there are. I immediately fell in love with that platypus pattern, and decided I would not allow myself to be daunted by the idea of amigurumi. And I'm soooooo glad I just went for it! Because seriously guys, it's easy! It's every bit as easy as making a beanie, as long as you have a good head on your shoulders for reading crochet patterns. Sometimes things seemed a little confusing, but I worked my way through it.

Just starting out. At this point I was still kind of skeptical that I would be able to make him.

Finished body! After this point I felt super confidant, and basically stopped taking pictures of the progress.

Perry wasn't quite finished for Christmas, but I had him sewn up and gave him to Mack shortly after. All except for that one little foot. Perry hung around with only one foot for quite a while actually.

But I finally got around to finishing him!

*insert that weird Perry noise he makes*

Mack sure loves him.

I've decided to take a break.

You may have noticed that I haven't been doing a whole lot of blogging this summer. Well I've decided it's time to stop feeling guilty and just take a break. I've been working really hard getting my house more in order, which- while productive- doesn't exactly make for exciting blogging material.
So. I'll be back September first. With lots of exciting things to blog about. Halloween costumes, Project Run and Play sew along, and updates on the crafting I've been doing. Because I have been crafting, I just haven't been finishing the things I start. I'm going to take the next few weeks to tackle the giant pile of WIP that is taking over my comfy rocking chair.
I'm really dying to have that thing back. It's the best for sitting in when you're pregnant.
But you don't have to miss me too much, I'm definitely going to be instagramming! So follow me: @fosterramblings

See ya!

I'm a little behind the times

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I kept seeing this button on blogs suggesting I follow with bloglovin'. So I'm doing it! Maybe now I'll actually get some of these great blogs read!

And of course I'll be adding the same button to my own sidebar.

Gender Announcement Outtakes

Anyone who has ever taken pictures of kids knows that you only get like 1 good shot out of every 7. If you're lucky! We didn't get very many good shots of Mack, the kid just wouldn't hold still.
However, sometimes it can be just as much fun to share some of the pictures that didn't make the final cut.

Ultrasound Pictures

I meant to post these on Tuesday! Life gets away from you so quickly. I've started and not finished about 5 new projects in the last three days, and I'm definitely in nesting mode. I washed all the bottles today and put the little ones away in a kitchen drawer. We are so excited for this baby!

Little tiny foot.

He had his legs crossed and stretched out. I'm guessing this is one of his favorite positions, because I feel a little hard bump up under my ribs pretty frequently.

Squirt had his face squished up against my uterus. So this was the best face picture we could get. Silly kid was sound asleep and no amount of jiggling could get him to move.

Mack loves Papa and Pop(sicles)!

While we were at the Boise rib fest Papa bought Mack a giant popsicle.

I was definitely worried about stains, but luckily his shirt came clean!

Shorts for my Shorty

For Spring Kids Clothes Week back in April, I cut into some absolutely darling black and white gingham. I wanted to make Mack some shorts using this pattern.
Well, now it's July, but they're done! And super cute! A big thank you to Caila Made for the free pattern!
I did make a slight modification, and put the elastic in the back only. So they have a flat front with a button, rather than elastic all the way around. This probably emphasized my sizing problem, but I like the flat front look.

Mack has a little duck tail. They are still a bit big, even after I decided to cut out the 18 month size.

My silly boy would not put down his sandwich for the photo shoot.

Seriously cute, and park tested!

Found some older pictures of Mack

It's amazing to me how much he has grown up, even just since we moved in March.

His room still ends up looking like this almost every day.

I love my little 2 year old!

10 Days!

In just 10 unbearably long, grueling days we will get to find out the gender of Baby Squirt! The appointment is set just 30 minutes before my best friend's appointment to find out the gender of her baby! I'm so excited to know! I haven't really done any baby sewing, because I really don't want gender neutral stuff. Not to mention that if it's a girl there will be lots of clothes to make, and if it's a boy I won't really have much to sew at all.
So I promised you all I'd give you a little peek into what names we're considering using. Since we still have a few days before we get to know gender we're still considering names for both boys and girls. We went to the hospital with three complete boy combos for Mack (and three girl combos just in case) and after using Mackay, all the other combos have basically hit the chopping block. So with this baby we're starting basically from square 2-- with two combos left over (one boy, one girl) and a few family names we both like.

Here are a few of our boy names:
Alvin
Baden
Benson
David
Garrett
Samuel

A few of our girl names:
Alice
Annette
Brenna
Jane
Katherine
Quinn

And our leftover combos:
Adelaide Kristen
Hyrum Perry

Just Like Daddy

Nathan was re-winding his reels last night. Mack picked up one of the rods and started waving it around. Thus began the cutest fishing lesson ever!

Just you wait Mack, next year your birthday present is going to be a fishing rod!

Our little monkey got bonked on the head

Friday night Nathan took Mack up to our ward's fathers and sons campout. Mack was so excited! He loves camping.
The sad part of the story is that I got a call from Nathan around 10 letting me know that he and Mack were coming home so that we could take Mack to the emergency room. Definitely not the sort of call any mother wants (and especially not a pregnant mother who was looking forward to sleeping in)!
Mack's head had been patched up pretty well by our EMT neighbor, but he thought the cut might need stitches so we figured we'd play it safe and take him to the ER.
Luckily, the cut wasn't too bad, and he didn't have a concussion. All they did was put some medical glue on it and send us home.
The first picture is Mack the night it happened. His shirt says, "it seemed like a good idea at the time."

We still don't know what exactly happened. Something involving another small child and a metal bat. But we're so grateful that Mackay is alright. And I'm sure when he's a teenager all the girls will love his 'Harry Potter scar'.

This is Mack today. I'm so proud of him. He barely cried while they fixed him up.

A close up of the owie. Mack has been really good about ignoring it. We have to leave the glue on for five days.
He was a little stunned, but such a good boy through the whole ordeal.
